For those of you who don't know me outside of my photography, I work as a lead server at Chili's Grill & Bar in San Bernardino. I've been with the company for almost seven years now and just recently turned down the opportunity to go into management. It would have taken away from my business and this is my heart and soul. The schedule I have allows for me to grow my business at the rate that I need and want while Eric is in nursing school.
That is where I met Joanna and Gabe! I was working on a random Saturday, I'd say almost two years ago now, and this darling couple sat in my section. I remember liking them right away. You know those people that you just "click" with? That was the three of us together. They became my regulars and we got to know each other as time went on.
Joanna and Gabe have been together for twelve years now and married for seven. It's rare that you see a couple so in love and so happy just to be around one another, but that's exactly how I would describe these two. To be honest, the way they are with one another reminds me of Eric and myself. So that made me love them even more!
Unfortunately, in June 2017, Joanna suffered a miscarriage of their first child, their angel baby - something that while I personally have never gone through, but know too many people that have gone through this. There went a few months where I didn't get to see them as much as before, but when I finally see my favorite couple, Joanna was PREGNANT! Everyone, including Gabe, too, was happy and healthy!
To say I was honored these two picked me to do their maternity pictures is an understatement. I never assume those I know will hire me to photograph something for them - there's a ton of amazing photographers out there and I'm just a little fish in a huge pond. When Joanna came to me in January when she was ready to book her maternity session, I practically cried. She wanted me to capture her rainbow baby! I'm a little too emotional in my age. I am a blubbering mess during This Is Us, I admit.
Together, Joanna and I picked the perfect location for their shoot. She also had me help her with picking out outfits for both of them to wear, which is something I have always loved doing!
The week leading up to their session, the forecast called for rain. I wanted to scream! We had waited so long for this day and it was going to rain?! Oh, no no no.
Thankfully, on the day of, everything was perfect and their outfits and props came together beautifully!
I hope you love these images, Joanna and Gabe! You both mean the world to me!
P.S. A huge shoutout to Katelyn Alford of Katelyn Alford Artistry for doing an incredible job on Joanna's hair and makeup! You always blow my expectations out of the water! Check her out on Instagram at @katelynalfordmakeupartistry to see how amazing she is!
