Where do I start with this beautiful session? I met Alea and her entire family last year when her mom hired me to do family photos for fall. Her mom found me on Instagram of all places! I fell so in love with this family that I was so touched when they said I was a part of “their crew” after their session. I remember laughing SO MUCH during our time together and just being ecstatic that they had chosen me to capture their first ever family portraits. My dream clients have a way of finding me and making me fall even more in love with this profession.
I was even more thrilled when Shawnell, Alea’s mom, asked me to take Alea’s 16th birthday pictures! They were open and willing to hear any wild ideas I had and came ready rock this session. I had heard of Malibu Creek State Park and had been dying to shoot there forever. So, when Shawnell and Alea said they were down to drive over an hour out that way for her session, I was stoked! For the most part, I stay local with sessions, but I get so bored with the same locations over and over. Mixing it up is what’s so great about this job.
We landed on a date, which happened to be Easter Sunday. I thought it was going to be quiet, with nobody there and no traffic driving out there. . . WRONG! So. Painfully. Wrong. What should have been about an hour and a half, was close to two and a half. It felt like we had driven into a time warp and going nowhere. We were all pretty exhausted by the time we finally got there, but quickly got over it the second we saw how special this park was. Aside from crawling with tons of people celebrating the holiday, it was something else.
Alea has a heart of gold and you can see that throughout her images. She’s beautiful inside and out and I hope I did right by her because she deserves to see how spectacular she is. As a little shout out to my girl, she will be singing the Nation Anthem in May at the 66er’s Game here in San Bernardino. She’s beautiful AND talented!
Happy early birthday, beautiful girl! I adore you and your entire family!
